Jane Austen: December 16, 1775 - July 18, 1817

Today marks the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen's death. In honor of the occasion the lovely Anna of Billet Doux & Little Mercuries kindly sent me a bookmark. This is very nice. Thank you Anna!
In the detail below you can see the texture of the black ribbon.

I confess that all my Jane Austen reading is done on Kindle but as this is my second Jane Austen bookmark I feel I ought to buy the hardback volume of her complete works which I've admired at the bookstore so that I might put it to best possible use.  The 200th anniversary of her death is certainly a worthy occasion for such a purchase.

I think today I shall read this delightful little historical work by fifteen year old Jane. I have read it before and found it to be very enjoyable.

The inside cover of this little volume gives the following timeline of Jane's life:

1791 - when almost 16 she wrote this History and in

1797 wrote Pride and Prejudice

1801 - 1809 she lived in Bath and

1809 - 1817, at Chawton, Hampshire.

18 July 1817 - she died in Winchester.

There you have it, a summary of Jane Austen's life. The reader is also informed that She was a tall, slender, hazel-eyed brunette and children liked her.

That children liked her is is recommendation enough as children usually are good judges of character.

  1. I'm glad you like the bookmark Sonja. Finding just the right ribbon was not an easy task, though an enjoyable one.
