Historical Letters: A Lost War Letter

The Smithsonian has shared something most interesting. I don't know about you, but I find Civil War letters to be fascinating. The postmaster in Newaygo, Michigan recently received an envelope which she carelessly tore into as though it were ordinary mail. If only she had known what was in her hand. With a postmark of April 23, 2015 she had no indication that she held something remarkable. Yet, in 1863, the envelope's contents were ordinary mail.

You can read the tale of the Civil War letter and its mystery at the Smithsonian.
