Historic Letters: Benjamin Franklin

Ben Franklin always had a way with words. But then it seems everyone of his generation did. Franklin sends this letter to George Washington by the hand of his son-in-law, Mr. Bache and congratulates him on the recovery of his health. It seems that his own health was perilous and that he ought to have died two years earlier. Even so he writes, "I am pleased that I have lived them, since they have brought me to see our present situation." Franklin helped birth a nation and must have been very pleased to see it's first president take office. He died seven months after penning this letter.

P.S. I adore his handwriting!

  1. What handwriting! Ben Franklin is one of my history heroes, so this post was such a treat to read.
